Police say a 21-year-old man is in jail after he led them on a 100-mph chase in three neighboring western New York counties.

The Ontario County Sheriff's Office says deputies tried to stop a car being driven by Chad Featherly early Thursday morning in the town of Phelps, but he sped off at speeds that topped 100 mph. Deputies ended their pursuit in Wayne County because it had become too dangerous.

Deputies later spotted him again in Phelps but backed off a second time when he sped into Yates County, where deputies found his car in a ditch. Featherly later turned himself in.

He's charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing from the police and numerous traffic citations.

Featherly is being held Friday in the Ontario County Jail. It wasn't clear if he has a lawyer.
