Child riding scooter at Galen dairy farm killed by tractor backing up, police say

State police are investigating the death of a 5-year-old child on an upstate New York dairy farm.

Troopers say the child was riding a motorized scooter Sunday evening on a farm in the Town of Galen when he was struck by a tractor that was backing up and towing a large feeder trailer.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wayne County Coroner's office.

The case remains under investigation.

Galen is located just north of Cayuga Lake about 50 miles east of Rochester.
