A Connecticut lawmaker hopes to slow legislation swapping land on the picturesque Connecticut River.
Sen. Edward Meyer, a Democrat from Guilford, has introduced an amendment requiring the state Department of Environmental Protection to review the exchange of state conservation land. Daniel Esty, commissioner of the environmental agency, has told lawmakers asking for a review that only the state attorney general can provide legal opinions.
He also said he does not have time for a review before the legislative session ends at midnight Wednesday.
Critics of the land swap in Haddam object to the loss of state conservation land.
Sen. Eileen Daily, the bill's sponsor, says it's the best use of the land and would improve economic development. Trevor Furrer, one of the project's developers, says an environmental review was done between 2006 and 2008.
