Cuomo announces $12M in grants for Sandy-damaged historic sites
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is scheduled on Tuesday to announce $12 million in federal grants for not-for-profits and municipalities to repair historic preservation sites damaged during superstorm Sandy.
Sites in Long Island, New York City and upstate that are listed on or are eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places will be considered. Sites that do not appear on the Register themselves but contribute to the listing of a historic district will also be considered.
In a statement emailed from Cuomo's office Monday night, Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey said that "countless properties listed on or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places were in the storm's path."
Cuomo said the program would help "rehabilitate these iconic landmarks."
