Fla. girl hurt in canal plunge leaving hospital

ROCHESTER -- A Florida girl was expected to be released from a western New York hospital nearly four months after the stroller she was strapped into fell into the Erie Canal.

WHAM-TV reported that 9-year-old Selah Clanton of Zephyrhills, Fla., was to be released Tuesday from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The girl has been hospitalized since Aug. 15, when she and her brother Sam, also 9, plunged into the canal when their father lost control of their double stroller.

Two Rochester police officers and three first-year medical students at a nearby picnic are credited with saving the children.

Selah's mother said her daughter will be transferred to a hospital closer to their home in Florida.

At the time of the accident, the family was in Rochester for their son's medical treatment.
