The Newsday/Siena Research Institute asked respondents to what degree do they believe each of the following improves quality of life here on Long Island. For each question they were asked to compare what Long Island has compared to other places they've been to or know about.

Here's what the majority of the Long Islanders surveyed said about our local beaches, schools, restaurants, entertainment venues and more.

Long Island's restaurants are better that those of other places, according to 67% of Long Islanders who were surveyed.

In the survey, 44% of respondents said Long Island's family entertainment attractions were better than those of other places they've been to or know about.

Among the Long Islanders surveyed, 84% said Long Island's colleges and universities were better than those of other places they've been to or know about.

In the survey, 92% of respondents said Long Island's beaches were better than those of other places they've been to or know about.

Long Islanders were almost split on their opinions of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with 50% of those surveyed saying that it was better than entertainment and sports complexes at other places they've been to or know about, and 40% saying it was worse.

Belmont Park and the UBS Arena are better than sports and concert venues in other places, according to 64% of the Long Islanders surveyed.

In the survey, 89% of respondents said Long Island's local parks are better than those in other places they've been to or know about.
