Meth lab reports in N.Y. more than double
ALBANY -- New York State Police said they're responding to far more reports of methamphetamine labs this year than last.
Troopers have answered more than 100 reports of labs making the illegal amphetamines so far this year, compared with 45 in 2011, state police said.
Authorities in Troop E, which covers 10 counties in western New York, say their total has risen to 20 through September this year from 17 last year.
The agency has a special unit -- the Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team -- that goes to clandestine drug labs. The agency plans to discuss some of its work at a news conference Friday in Batavia.
