A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of a 16-year-old girl found stabbed and bludgeoned inside her central New York home.

Amie Leland was found dead inside her home in Cortland at around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Police said she suffered blunt force trauma, stab wounds and other severe injuries.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that Michael Hammond Jr. was arrested later Friday at his home in Virgil.

Hammond was arraigned Saturday in Cortland City Court. He pleaded not guilty to charges including second-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

He is being held without bail.

Police said Hammond had a previous relationship with Leland.
