ALBANY - New York City lawyer Gail Goode has filed petitions to force Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand into a Democratic primary. Goode conceded she is little known and has no campaign war chest as she dropped off petitions in Albany Wednesday. But she said New Yorkers deserve a choice other than Gillibrand, who is running for election to the seat she was appointed to last year.

Goode says she filed petitions with almost 45,000 signatures - three times the legal requirement. Barring a successful challenge, she will force a primary with Gillibrand on Sept. 14.

There was no comment from the Gillibrand campaign Wednesday. Gillibrand was picked last year to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was named U.S. secretary of state. - AP
