NY State to extend tax deadline to April 18
Following the lead of the federal government, New York State officials announced Wednesday that taxpayers will have until April 18 to file their 2010 personal income tax returns.
Taxpayers are getting three extra days because Emancipation Day, a holiday in Washington, will be observed on Friday, April 15 - the traditional deadline for filing. As a result, the Internal Revenue Service recently moved the federal tax filing deadline to the next business day, Monday, April 18.
The state Department of Taxation and Finance will follow suit, giving tax procrastinators a bit more time.
In addition, taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Oct. 17 to file.
