ALBANY -- State regulators are seeking public comment on plans to ban possession of an invasive fish in areas of New York where that isn't already forbidden.

The bighead carp is considered a threat to other fish in the Great Lakes. The state prohibits importing, transporting or selling bighead carp except in New York City and the Westchester County towns of Rye, Harrison, and Mamaroneck. New federal regulations require the exception be lifted.
