State police say a 9-year-old boy is dead after he was thrown from a metal cart on an Amish farm in upstate New York.

Troopers say it happened Tuesday afternoon as the boy was playing on his family's farm in the town of Orleans, on the Canadian border in Jefferson County. Police say he was rolling down a hill in a metal dump cart with his younger sisters when the cart hit rocks and ejected him.

Troopers say the cart struck the boy in the head, killing him.

Authorities haven't released the victim's identity.
