Prosecutors: Upstate librarian charged with rape flees country
Prosecutors say an upstate New York librarian charged with having sex with an underage boy she met at work has fled the country.
Officials in Warren County tell The Post-Star of Glens Falls that 33-year-old Abby Berkheimer of Queensbury had met the 15-year-old boy while working at a local library.
She was arrested in February on a rape charge after the boy was reported missing by his parents but was found at Berkheimer's home. She was freed on $2,500 bail.
Prosecutors say she was scheduled to plead guilty to a felony charge last week but didn't show up in court. Officials say they've learned Berkheimer fled to France.
Her lawyer says he's working with her family to try and convince her to return to the U.S.
