An investigation is underway in the case of an upstate New York man who died after being hit by a police stun gun.

Police say they have a video of the incident that killed 50-year-old Richard Davis on Sunday morning. The former Marine crashed a pickup truck into a church and several vehicles, then ignored commands to surrender before he was hit.

Rochester Police Chief Mike Ciminelli says his department outfits about half the force with stun guns, and all officers that use one have felt it at some point. The chief also says investigators are gathering data that will shed light on department protocols, such as how often they've used stun guns on civilians.

Ciminelli says the officer involved is on desk duty until the investigation is finished.
