Schneiderman campaign to return doc's donations

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will give up $12,500 in contributions from a Florida doctor who is under FBI investigation, donating the money to charities helping superstorm Sandy victims, his campaign said Thursday.
The FBI searched the West Palm Beach office of Salomon Melgen on Tuesday and early Wednesday. The focus of the probe was unclear.
Melgen, an associate of, and contributor to, U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) over the years, has made numerous contributions to many Democrats around the country, according to reports. Since August, Melgen has made two donations to Schneiderman totaling $12,500 -- which the AG says he'll now forgo.
"In light of reports that Dr. Melgen is the subject of an ongoing FBI investigation, we have decided, out of an abundance of caution, to donate the full amount of this individual's contribution to charities helping New Yorkers recovering from Hurricane Sandy," Schneiderman 2014, his campaign committee, said in an email.
