Want to know when you might receive your rebate from New York’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program?
You can look it up.
The state Tax Department has provided an online tool to help homeowners get an idea of when they might receive a rebate check.
The information can be found at: www.tax.ny.gov/star/ where you input your home county, school district and city/town/village.
Hint: It is tied to the due date for your local school tax payment.
For example, if you punch in Suffolk County, East Hampton, Amagansett school district, you will get: "We expect to begin issuing STAR credits to eligible homeowners in your school district in the beginning of December, and we will continue to issue them for several weeks."
More than 2.8 million New Yorkers are expected to receive $2.2 billion in tax relief across the state, according to the Tax Department. Payments will be delivered either via check or direct deposit.
On Long Island, an estimated 582,000 homeowners will receive nearly $700 million in STAR relief.
STAR is available to homeowners and spouses with a combined income of $500,000 annually. Homeowners who enrolled before 2015 may receive the rebate via a credit to reduce their school tax bill. Homeowners who enrolled after that may receive the rebate via direct deposit or check.
