NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Authorities say a body recovered near Niagara Falls is that of a 19-year-old Japanese student who was swept over after tumbling off a railing.
Niagara Parks Police in Ontario confirmed her identity Friday. That's a day after her body was spotted by an employee at a tourist attraction on the American side of the falls.
The teen was visiting the Canadian side Sunday night when she climbed onto a railing and fell. The next day, searchers looking for her instead found the body of a man from Hamilton, Ontario, who had been reported missing.
Police say they won't release the Japanese woman's name. Canadian media outlets quote classmates identifying her as Ayano Tokumasu. -- AP
