They bet zero - and won up to $5,000
A whole lot of nothing led to something for more than 1,000 lucky New Yorkers in the Win 4 lottery on Saturday.
The number combination of "0000" came up during the midmorning four-number drawing for the first time since records have been kept, dating to 1981, said lottery spokeswoman Jennifer Givner.
The 1,351 players who bet on all zeros, or who bet on a four-digit string of numbers with a combination of zeros, such as two at the front end, could each win up to $5,000, she said.
Actual winnings will depend on how they placed their bets.
But while "0000" might look remarkable, it is no more or less statistically likely to be drawn than other combinations, Givner said.
The odds for any number combination in Win 4 are 1 in 10,000, she said.
