Trucker cited in Kerry Kennedy accident

The Poughkeepsie truck driver whose tractor-trailer was sideswiped by Kerry Kennedy last week while she allegedly was driving under the influence of drugs, was issued a summons Wednesday for leaving the scene after the accident, state police said.

Rocco Scuiletti, 47, was cited for failing to stop after Kennedy, 52, hit his rig while she was driving erratically down Interstate 684 at about 8 a.m. Friday on her way to the gym, officials said.

The ex-wife of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo says that a "complex partial seizure" brought on by a head injury sustained last year during a car accident caused her to drive wildly, with no memory of the incident.

A North Castle police officer found the mother of three daughters outside the car with the engine running after a motorist reported her stopped and slumped over the wheel of her 2008 Lexus off I-684's Exit 3 on Route 22.

Scuiletti could not immediately be reached for comment.

An "investigation revealed Mr. Scuiletti was operating a 2011 International tractor hauling a trailer when this vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Ms. Kennedy," State Police Maj. Michael Kopy said in a statement. "Investigation has disclosed that Scuiletti was aware that he was involved in an accident and failed to report the accident as required."

Scuiletti faces a maximum penalty of a $250 fine or 15 days in jail. He is due in North Castle Town Court on Aug. 7.

Tuesday night, Kennedy was fingerprinted and had her mug shot taken at the state police barracks in Somers after she pleaded not guilty in New Castle Town Court to the misdemeanor charge of driving while ability impaired by drugs in North Castle Town Court. Her next court date is set for Aug. 14 and she could face up to a year behind bars if convicted.
