SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Central New York is bracing for a blast of snow.

Syracuse has had less than an inch of snow so far this season — none in December. But forecasters at the National Weather Service say brief squalls could pop up and drop an inch or two in and around the Salt City this weekend.

The bulk of the snow will stay well north of Syracuse, and as much as three feet are possible in some areas of the Tug Hill Plateau. A lake-effect snow warning has been issued for that region east of Lake Ontario.

Whatever falls in the Syracuse area won’t stay. Temperatures are predicted to rise into the 50s next week.
