Reich has confidence in Kenyon Sadiq when he returns
Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq has participated in only a handful of workouts since he was drafted by the Jets in April’s first round, undergoing hernia surgery in the spring and then missing time in training camp to recover from an issue that popped up with the same injury.
He may not be ready to return until closer to the start of the regular season. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich said he isn’t worried about the lack of on-field reps, though.
“Of course missing practice matters and practice is a big part of it,” Reich said, “but when it’s time I’m confident he’ll be ready.”
Reich said Sadiq has been taking part in meetings and leaning on veterans while he sits out the practices.
Fellow tight end Jelani Woods, a free-agent addition, said he’s been impressed with Sadiq and said he “doesn’t feel like a young guy” when he interacts with the room.
“Kenyon is very mature, very engaged, and locked in to a dynamic room," Reich said. "He knows what he needs to get ready in the meantime to stay locked in. We trust our medical staff and I trust AG to make the right decision and pull the trigger when he is ready to come back in and we’ll get rolling.”
