Renovated boardwalk opens in Port Jefferson

 The renovated Harbor Walk West along Port Jefferson Harbor has reopened.

The project included renovating the boardwalk and lot to the west of the Port Jefferson Ferry. The decking was replaced and the parking lot was repaved, Brookhaven Town officials said.

Several new fixtures, including maritime-style lighting, steel handrails, wood ladders, landscaping and new drainage were also added, town officials said.

Workers also removed an unused storage tank and a fuel tank from the parking lot, town officials said. The project, which cost $950,000, was completed in six weeks and ended earlier this month.

Village Mayor Margot Garant said the work was critical because “our Harborfront Park and boardwalk on the east side of the harbor are now connected by this new boardwalk to the working, west side of our harbor.”

The renovations were paid for by Brookhaven Town and the state Department of State’s Coastal Resources Division, officials said.
