Report: Heroin epidemic getting worse in Northport
Officials say heroin is still a growing problem across Long Island, and it seems to be getting worse in Northport.
Northport Village Police Chief Eric Brikenthal says there were 44 arrests for drugs last year, most of those arrests involved heroin. The number is compared to 22 arrests the year before.
The chief tells Newsday that most heroin users in Northport Village are under 26 years old.
Heroin is blamed for a record number of Long Island deaths in 2013.
