For the next three weeks, the Riverhead Water District will conduct the regular spring flushing of its water mains.

Most of the work is scheduled at night to reduce inconvenience to customers.

The district has warned residents to check their water for discoloration before drinking or doing any wash. While the district doesn't consider the discolored water dangerous, it can stain clothes.

Superintendent Gary Pendzick said that running the water for a few minutes should clear up any discoloration.
