Town moves ahead with Enterprise Park plans

Riverhead’s town board, meeting in its dual role as the town’s Community Development Agency, voted Tuesday night to accept a market study for the future development of the town-owned Enterprise Park at Calverton and to proceed with an environmental review of two alternative development plans for the property.
The vote was a small but important step toward reaching the town’s goal of being able to subdivide and begin selling off parts of the 3,000-acre EPCAL property to industrial firms and other developers by this summer, according to town Supervisor Sean Walter.
The two development proposals are based on a study done for the town earlier this year that tried to identify how undeveloped land at Calverton could best be used, given changes in market conditions and the economy which have taken place since the land was sold to the town for $1 by the U.S. Navy after it was declared surplus more than a decade ago.
