For as long as anyone in Town Hall can remember, Riverhead has always had a receiver of taxes.
Now, officially, anyone holding that post will have to work a seven-hour day.
The town board last week officially set the standard work day for the tax receiver at seven hours, and the standard work month at 20 days, in a resolution needed to meet the requirements of the state retirement system.
Town Receiver of Taxes Laurie Zaneski’s annual salary of $71,581 was set by town board resolution in January, and she is not paid overtime for the extra work that is required when people come in and make tax payments.
