Riverhead Town officials are getting ready for their big spring flush.
Every year, the town flushes out its water mains, a process that takes about three weeks. Most of the work is done at night, to limit the inconvenience for customers who might find their water is discolored when they turn on their taps.
Water District Superintendent Gary Pendzick said the flushing will begin on the evening of April 14, and should continue through May 4.
He said customers who find their water is discolored should simply let it run for a few minutes and — if it doesn’t clear up — wait awhile and try it again.
Town residents can call the water district at 631-727-3205 if the problem persists.
