Road in Hempstead Town honors 9/11 victim

Town of Hempstead officials have unveiled a street sign dedicating an East Atlantic Beach road as Charles P. Lucania Avenue in honor of the 9/11 victim.

Hempstead Town officials were joined Saturday by family, friends and colleagues of Lucania, who was killed in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Sept. 11, 2001.

The commemorative sign dedicating Oswego Avenue in his name will be placed at the southwestern corner of Oswego Avenue and Beech Street in East Atlantic Beach, officials said.

“I truly believe that by remembering and celebrating the lives of heroes like Charles, we weave grief, pain and sorrow into strength, courage and connection,” Town Supervisor Kate Murray said in a statement.

Lucania was an electrician with P.E. Stone, Inc. and was working in Tower 2. He was one of three electricians with P.E. Stone Inc. to be reported missing after the terrorist attacks.

Lucania grew up in Whitestone and bought a home in East Atlantic Beach in 1997.
