Fairway Drive in Port Washington is getting a new name.

The street will be now be called May Newburger Drive, in honor of the woman who served  Town of North Hempstead Supervisor from 1994 to 2003.

Newburger was the first female town supervisor in Nassau County.

Town officials, state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-Roslyn Heights) and former North Hempstead town clerk and current state Assemb. Michelle Schimel (D-Great Neck) will honor Newburger for her years of service during a reception Tuesday at 6 p.m. at town hall, 220 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset.

A special meeting about the Great Neck Library’s plan to renovate and expand the main branch will follow.
