Rockland AmeriCorps seeking members for summer service
AmeriCorps is accepting applications from people 17 and older to perform outdoor, environmental community service this summer in Rockland County. Applications are due March 29 or until positions are filled.
The positions require 300 hours of service from late May until August. Fifty hours of training is included in the 300-hour time commitment. Training will be in areas such as environmental education, trail building, conservation, curriculum development, leadership, team building and first aid.
Typically, members educate the public about ecological conservation and environmental health issues, conduct field research, build and maintain nature trails, teach environmental education at camps, create gardens, patrol streams, facilitate clean ups and implement recycling programs.
The AmeriCorps member will receive a $2,000 living stipend, delivered in bi-weekly paychecks. At the completion of the 300 hours, members receive an additional $1,132 educational award, which must be used to pay college tuition within seven years, an existing qualified student loan, or relevant college expenses as determined by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
