Known for an optimistic style, Mitt Romney says he believes New York Republicans will field a strong challenger to U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand.

He's just not saying who he thinks that challenger will be.

"You'll see at least one strong candidate come forward," Romney said during an appearance in Huntington Wednesday for a book-signing.

A name? The 2008 presidential candidate and former Massachusetts governor said: "That's all I got for you." Was this a secret candidate? Romney held his ground: "That's all I got."

Then a fan asked Romney - who has homes in New Hampshire and San Diego but not, at last check, in New York - to run for office here. He politely declined. - Reid Epstein
