State Sen. Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) is hosting a holiday toy drive to benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, in hopes of bringing some cheer to seriously ill children and their families.

The Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park provides shelter to families with a sick child being treated at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, a two-minute walk from the house, and other hospitals.

Many of the families served are from Long Island and other parts of the metropolitan area.

“The generosity of the residents of the Seventh Senate District has been overwhelming,” Martins said in a statement. “We are just trying to make the holidays a little brighter for some families who may be going through a difficult time.”

Toys can be dropped off anytime at Martins’ district office -- 151 Herricks Rd., Suite 202, in Garden City Park -- until Monday.

For more information, call Martins’ office at 516-746-5924.
