Rookie injuries mounting up
Three of the Jets’ seven draft picks are sidelined for multiple weeks with various injuries: tight end Kenyon Sadiq, cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and safety VJ Payne. The hope is No. 2 pick David Bailey doesn’t join that list. Bailey left practice late on Saturday with an ankle injury, but Aaron Glenn said the rookie edge rusher will “be fine.”
Payne, a seventh-round pick, is out 3-4 weeks with a bone bruise. Glenn said Payne “was playing real well for us and he was really building a role for himself, but he'll be fine."
Sadiq had a “setback” in his recovery from core muscle surgery. He’s already missed a week of practice. Sadiq could be back in two weeks.
Ponds hasn’t practiced yet because of a calf injury. He could return in the next week or two.
