When the Giants drafted Odell Beckham Jr. they thought he would be able to make an impact as soon as he stepped onto the field for them. They were right ... even if it did take an extra month of waiting.

The first-round pick scored a 15-yard touchdown in his NFL debut against the Falcons yesterday, giving the Giants a 24-20 lead in the fourth quarter of their 30-20 win at MetLife Stadium.

The Giants improved to 3-2, their first time over .500 since the end of the 2012 season. They remain a game behind the Eagles in the NFC East and play at Philadelphia next Sunday. The Falcons are 2-3 and have lost their last nine outdoor road games.

Beckham missed almost all of the offseason program, all of the preseason and all of the first month of the regular season with hamstring troubles. He has still not been a full participant in an NFL practice, but that didn't stop him from being an important participant in this game. He caught four passes for 44 yards that included the leaping touchdown.

The Giants scored first on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Rueben Randle to cap an 11-play, 83-yard drive midway through the first quarter. The Falcons answered with a touchdown drive as well, one that ended with Steven Jackson's 10-yard touchdown run. Then, on the kickoff, Preston Parker fumbled the ball to set up the Falcons at the Giants' 21. The Giants' defense held the Falcons to a field goal that gave them a 10-7 lead.

The Giants had a chance to grab momentum early in the third when Quintin Demps intercepted a pass from Matt Ryan. Demps fumbled the ball on the return, however, and gave it back to Atlanta. The interception would not have counted anyway; Prince Amukamara was flagged for defensive holding.

With leading rusher Rashad Jennings on the sideline with a knee injury, the Giants turned to rookie Andre Williams to cap a touchdown drive that started at the 19 and was helped along by two early Falcons penalties. Williams made it 20-17 with 2:05 left in the third. Beckham Jr.'s TD gave the Giants the lead, with Josh Brown kicking a pair of field goals to bring the score to 30-20.
