Rossi lifts Plainedge over Hewlett
R.J. Rossi scored the game-winner with three seconds left in the fourth quarter for host Plainedge (3-0) in its 10-9 win over Hewlett in Conference B-II boys lacrosse Friday afternoon. It was Rossi's second goal of the day.
Mike Nigro, who finished with three goals, tied it at 6 off a full-field pass from Jake Altner with less than a second left in the second quarter. Bobby McDonough added two goals and an assist, and Mike Arnold made 10 saves. Chris Loria led Hewlett (3-1) with three goals.South Side 10, Lynbrook 6: Pat Finnerty scored three goals with two assists for South Side (4-2), which trailed 5-4 at halftime. Alex Doerflein added three goals, and Dominic Moriarty made 14 saves. Kevin Alonge and Ryan Clark each scored two goals for Lynbrook (4-1).
Carey 9, Calhoun 8: Jake Robison scored with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter to give Carey (2-2) a 9-6 lead in Conference B-I. Robison finished with two goals and one assist. Mike Tripodi scored three goals, Nick Ferrara added two, and Dan McElhinney made 11 saves. Paul Grubb led Calhoun (2-2) with three goals and an assist and Kevin MacBride made 10 saves.Whitman 13, Middle Country 10: Gregory Harris scored two goals with four assists and Kevin Teresky scored four goals with one assist for Whitman (4-4) in Division I. Matthew Finn scored four goals, and Myles Jones added a goal and three assists. Tyler Meigel and Steven Boyle each scored three goals for Middle Country (3-4).
East Hampton/Bridgehampton 15, Huntington 10: Austin Heneveld scored five of his six goals in a 9-4 first half for East Hampton/Bridgehampton (7-0) in Division II. Tyler Brenneman added three goals and six assists, and Ryan Shaw won 18 of 26 faceoffs. Brendan Damm scored three goals. Jack Denver led Huntington (3-3) with three goals and one assist.
Comsewogue 11, Sayville 8: Ryan Brunet scored his second goal of the game off a feed from Doug Foley with five seconds left in the third quarter to give Comsewogue (7-0) a 9-4 lead. Connor Duddy led Comsewogue with four goals and two assists and Kevin Drane finished with two goals. Jake Sichenzie led Sayville (2-4) with three goals and two assists.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Portledge 15, Holy Trinity 14: Addie Reilly scored seven goals with three assists as Portledge (6-0), which led 9-3 at halftime, advanced to its own tournament final at 1 p.m. Saturday against Kellenberg. Freshman Ceci Mulry scored a career-high three goals with one assist. Dana Grossjung led Holy Trinity (1-6) with six goals.
Port Washington 14, Division 9: Junior Alexa Froccaro had a career-high 12 points (eight goals, four assists) to lead Port Washington (7-0) in a Conference II/III crossover. Her cousin, Jackie Froccaro, added three goals and 15 draw controls. Samantha Tilts made 14 saves. Christina Rea led Division (2-5) with three goals.
North Babylon 17, Connetquot 10: Bria Hartley scored five goals with five assists for North Babylon (3-4) in Division I. Freshman goalie Stephanie Musso made six saves in her varsity debut, while Nicole Marzocca and Catherine Sandkuhl each had four goals and one assist. Amber Kupres led Connetquot (3-5) with three goals.
