Roundup: Braves snap losing streak
Shortstop Andrelton Simmons made amends for his first career error by hitting a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning Friday night as the host Atlanta Braves topped the Orioles, 4-2, ending Baltimore's winning streak at five games.
Kris Medlen, recalled after the Braves designated Livan Hernandez for assignment, gave up one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings. Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 19th save as the Braves ended their losing streak at four games.
Rays 11, Marlins 0: Rookie Matt Moore and two relievers combined for a one-hit shutout for host Tampa Bay, which was held to one hit at Tropicana Field by R.A. Dickey on Wednesday. Moore (4-5) gave up a first-inning single, walked three and struck out eight in seven innings. Ben Zobrist homered and Desmond Jennings drove in four runs.
Cubs 3, Red Sox 0: Ryan Dempster (3-3, 2.11 ERA) pitched four-hit ball over seven innings for host Chicago. The Red Sox lost for the eighth time in 11 games.
Blue Jays 3, Phillies 0:Host Toronto used six pitchers in the shutout as starter Drew Hutchison became the third Toronto starter in five days to leave with a midgame injury. He left after nine pitches, forced out by a sore right elbow. Philadelphia has lost 10 of 13.
Indians 2, Pirates 0: Justin Masterson (3-6) pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks with nine strikeouts for host Cleveland. Chris Perez pitched the ninth for his 21st save, best in the majors.
Royals 3, Cardinals 2: Mike Moustakas cut down Tyler Greene at the plate to end the game for visiting Kansas City, which has won four straight.
Rangers 6, Astros 2: Yu Darvish (8-4) matched his career high with 11 strikeouts in eight innings for host Texas.
Rockies 12, Tigers 4: Wilin Rosario hit a go-ahead two-run single in the 10th as visiting Colorado scored eight runs in the extra frame to snap an eight-game losing streak.
Brewers 5, Twins 3: Martin Maldonado's tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth won it for visiting Milwaukee.
