County services at Brentwood site
Suffolk County will provide a limited number of county services — including assistance with food stamp applications and job searches — at the Brentwood offices of an immigrant advocacy group.
County Executive Steve Bellone announced Monday that the Department of Labor, Department of Social Services and Human Rights Commission will provide services at the office of Make the Road New York, 1090 Suffolk Ave.
“Ensuring that all residents have access to county services is of the utmost importance to my administration,” Bellone said at a ceremony held at the office Monday.
Bellone said the partnership was part of an effort to reach “underserved communities” noting that residents in Central Islip and Brentwood have had limited access to county services in the past due to a host of issues including limited transportation.
Every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the two departments will each have a representative on-site to help connect residents with county programs. Services will include providing referrals to adult education and job training programs and conducting eligibility screenings for social service programs like food stamps and subsidized child care.
The county’s Human Rights Commission, which is responsible for handling discrimination complaints, will also be available to meet residents by appointment, Bellone said.
All services will be available in English and in Spanish.

BROOKHAVEN TOWN
Brookhaven to launch food drive to help programs affected by storms
The Town of Brookhaven plans to launch a food drive Wednesday to assist programs affected by a slew of winter storms.
Nonperishable food will be collected at Town Hall and six other sites through April 18, Supervisor Edward P. Romaine said in a news release. The donations will be distributed to food pantries and houses of worship.
“The snow storms have made it difficult for people to donate to the local food pantries, and they are being quickly depleted,” Romaine said in a statement. “It’s time that we all step up to help our neighbors in need get through the winter months.”
Donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the seven sites: Town Hall, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville; Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center, 39 Montauk Hwy., Blue Point; Mastic Recreation Center, 15 Herkimer St., Mastic; New Village Recreation Center, 20 Wireless Rd., Centereach; Robert E. Reid Recreation Center, Route 25A and Defense Hill Road, Shoreham; Rose Caracappa Senior Center, 739 Route 25A, Mount Sinai; and St. Michaels Community Center, 1130 Old Town Rd., Coram.

GREAT NECK
Meeting set on plan to rezone 2 roads
The Great Neck Village board of trustees will hold a public hearing next week on a proposal to rezone two major arteries in the village.
A revised proposal will be presented at the meeting to weigh how Steamboat and Middle Neck roads could be rezoned. The proposal centers around revitalizing and condensing the business district along a portion of Middle Neck Road and creating multifamily housing and townhomes on a section of Steamboat Road.
The village held several public hearings on the idea last year. It received comments and suggestions from village residents and property owners, some of which have since been incorporated in the revisions by the village’s consultant on the project, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc., according to the village.
Materials on the rezoning can be seen at the village’s website, greatneckvillage.org.
The public hearing will take place at the village’s regular board of trustees meeting, at 7:30 p.m. on March 4 at Village Hall, 61 Baker Hill Road, Great Neck.
