Roundup: SWR's Luppens no-hits Westhampton

Jim Luppens pitched a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk to lead Shoreham-Wading River over Westhampton, 12-0, in League VI baseball. Luppens walked the first batter he faced and hit another in the same inning. He then retired 19 of the final 20. At the plate, Luppens went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run in the sixth and scored three runs. The Wildcats are 1-0.
Islip 6, Huntington 5: Stephen Provenzano (2-for-2) hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give Islip (1-0) a 6-5 lead in League V. Ed Macaluso struck out 10 and allowed two earned runs.
SOFTBALL
East Rockaway 10, Cold Spring Harbor 0: Junior Stephanie Loughran threw her first career no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and four walks and went 3-for-3 with four RBIs for East Rockaway (2-1) in ABC-III. The righthander also escaped a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the top of the sixth.
Riverhead 5, Half Hollow Hills West 0: Julia Morrow pitched a no-hitter with three walks and 11 strikeouts for Riverhead (2-1) in League V. She also went 2-for-4 with an RBI double. Doscinski went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Seaford 2, Sewanhaka 1: Erica Fischetti doubled in Lindsay Montemarano in the fifth inning to give Seaford (3-1) a 2-0 lead in ABC-I. Lindsay Montemarano, who scored two runs, allowed two hits and struck out eight.
Plainedge 2, New Hyde Park 0: Michele Daubman pitched a three-hitter with 13 strikeouts and drove in Tina Zollo with a one-out triple to put Plainedge (3-0) ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth in ABC-I. Friends Academy 21, Mineola 11: Junior Correy Denihan went 5-for-6 with a home run and a career-high 10 RBIs to lead Friends Academy (2-0) in ABC-V.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Eastport-South Manor 10, Mount Sinai 9: Tara Gerstacker scored the winner with 33 seconds left on a rebound of her own shot for Eastport-South Manor (2-0) in League II. Gerstacker also tied the score at 9 off an assist from Dene DeMartino with three minutes left as ESM rallied from a 6-3 deficit with 12 minutes remaining. Melissa Didonato and Caroline Fitzgerald each scored three goals for Mount Sinai.
VOLLEYBALL
West Hempstead 3, Wantagh 1: Danny Minto had 21 kills and five blocks and Ben Abelido added 34 assists for West Hempstead (3-0) in a 26-24, 27-25, 24-26, 25-15 non-league win.
