Russell Gardens Village adopts $1.5M budget for next year

The Village of Russell Gardens adopted a $1.5 million budget for 2013-2014 at its last board meeting.

The budget, adopted last Thursday, represents a 14.7 percent increase over the current year’s budget of $1.3 million. The tax levy included in the budget does not pierce the state tax cap.

Property taxes on an average home in the village will increase by $50 to $60, according to Mayor Matthew Bloomfield.

The budget includes an appropriation of $150,000 toward the possible purchase of a park facility owned by the Russell Gardens Association.

Bloomfield said that if the village goes ahead with the purchase, the $150,000 would be paid at closing, with six subsequent payments of about $160,000 per year beginning in late 2014.

“It’s still in the process of being developed,” he said. “Right now we’re just budgeting it for the possibility that it’s going to move forward.”
