Saban's Minkah-Malachi mix-ups
Being called “Minkah” by former Alabama coach Nick Saban didn’t bother Malachi Moore. The second-year safety grew up in Alabama a fan of Fitzpatrick, who also played for the Crimson Tide and is now a Jet.
According to Moore, it happened during film sessions his first couple of days at Alabama. Moore shared that story with Fitzpatrick.
“Coach Saban was calling me Minkah in film, and I’m like, ‘Coach, it’s Malachi,” Moore recalled. “But in the back of my head, I'm thinking, ‘If you’re going to mess my name up and call me anybody, Minkah is a pretty cool one to be called.’”
When Moore was in high school and college, he would watch highlights of Fitzpatrick. Moore said to be playing with somebody he “really, really looked up to is a cool experience for sure.”
