Sachem East senior guard Kristen Doherty scored her 2,000th career point Friday night in a 62-41 win over Commack in Suffolk League I girls basketball.

The Boston College-bound Doherty, on the varsity since eighth grade, needed 13 points to reach the milestone and she scored her 2,000th career point off a steal and layup on the first basket of the third quarter with 6:35 left.

She has 2,016 points. Doherty, a nominee for the McDonald's All-American game, had 29 points, eight rebounds, six steals, four assists and six blocked shots to lead Sachem East (10-0). Eighth-grader Kathleen Everson scored 10 points in the win.

Colleen Walker had 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Kerry Haller had seven points and five assists for Commack (3-6).
