Sacred Heart wins CHSAA Championship
No. 1 Sacred Heart defeated No. 3 St. Anthony’s 4-1 on Tuesday at Catiague Park to win the CHSAA Girls Golf Championship. Sacred Heart finishes the season with a 15-1 record.
Junior Stephanie Sullivan shot a five-over 35 to lead the way. Sophomore Tatiana Reali shot a 37.
“The girls did a great job,” first-year coach Ken Carter said. “They are a pleasure to be around. I really enjoyed coaching this team.”
Freshman Katie Boyle shot a 39 and junior Katie Graham shot a 40.
Sacred Heart’s only loss was to Our Lady of Mercy, 3-2 on April 2. Since the loss, they won 11 consecutive matches. Carter said his team knew they were the favorites going into the season because of their depth. Only two seniors are on the team and only one of them played in the starting lineup, giving Carter a strong squad for years to come.
“We’re pretty stacked for the next few years,” he said. “The girls new they were the favorites and they never got nervous. They went out there and did their job.”
Sacred Heart will send five golfers to the CHSAA Individual Championships, which will be played on May 15 at Eisenhower White Course at 1:30 p.m.
Tina Chang had the best score of the day with a one-over 31 for St. Anthony’s, which finishes the season 12-4-1.
