Sag Harbor's Main Street is one of the 10 best streets in the United States, according to the American Planning Association.

The Washington, D.C., nonprofit chooses 10 streets to honor each year. Other 2014 picks announced Wednesday included New York City's Broadway and Washington, D.C.'s Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sag Harbor's nine-block main drag has kept its charm as the village has transformed over three centuries from a whaling hub of global significance to a blue-collar enclave and finally to a high-priced destination in the Hamptons, the association said.

"There is an unmistakable aura of old wealth, culture and history about flag-lined Main Street where the vestiges of the whaling industry, the village's role in several wars, and the outcomes of four devastating fires are still legible," the nonprofit said on its website.

The American Planning Association said it launched its Great Places in America program in 2007, and has since honored 230 streets, neighborhoods and public places.
