Sag Harbor walking tour app takes users to historic, cultural sites

A new Sag Harbor Walking Tour app takes visitors to the sites included in the cultural district, starting with Bay Street Theater and going as far as the Eastville Community Historical Society and Canio's Cultural Center.

It also takes users to the Sag Harbor Historical Society, Custom House, Whaling and Historical Museum, John Jermain Memorial Library, Old Whalers' Church and Christ Episcopal Church.

The app was a joint project of the Sag Harbor Partnership and the Sag Harbor Cultural District. The partnership is a nonprofit that raises funds for local cultural, education and conservation causes. The Cultural District comprises cultural and historic institutions in the village.

Also included in the app is a link to the Sag Harbor Historical Society's own walking tour, which includes stops at more than 40 historic locations in the village. Another takes users on a similar historic tour put together by the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities.

Plans are underway to expand the offerings with an architectural tour and walking tour of the Eastville neighborhood. Other ideas for app additions include a tour that focuses on the homes of whaling captains, a literary tour and a tour of the houses of famous women who have lived in Sag Harbor.

The app is now available on Android phones. It is expected to be approved soon for iTunes, which will make it available on iPhones and iPads.
