Sandy recovery, emergency prep seminars in Wantagh, Freeport

There will be a superstorm Sandy recovery seminar in Freeport Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, and a storm preparation session next week in Wantagh. Nassau County Legis. Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) will present a Sandy Recovery Workshop Thursday night in Freeport and a hurricane and emergency preparedness seminar in Wantagh next week.
Denenberg and Village of Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy will host a community meeting regarding rebuilding homes, elevating homes, building permit requirements, insurance issues and advocacy and FEMA assistance.
Representatives from the village and Hempstead Town building departments, FEMA, insurance attorneys, advocates and construction companies are expected to attend. The forum will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Freeport Village Hall, 46 N. Ocean Ave.
At another forum in Wantagh, representatives from the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management will discuss emergency procedures and what residents can do to protect their home in case of a hurricane. Residents will be given information on how to prepare for a potential power outage caused by a storm. Questions and answers follow presentations.
The forum will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Wantagh Public Library, 3285 Park Ave.
