Hempstead Town will partner with Long Island Cares and the Salvation Army Thursday to give supplies to superstorm Sandy victims in Barnum Island.

The event, which is for residents who lost belongings in the storm, will take place at Shell Creek Park in Barnum Island from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., town officials said. The park is located near the intersection of Traymore Boulevard and Vanderbilt Avenue.

"We have so many residents in the Barnum Island, Harbor Isle and Island Park area who have experienced devastating losses as a result of Sandy," Town Supervisor Kate Murray said in a statement.

The town and charities plan to distribute items such as housewares, cleaning supplies, baby bathtubs, dishes and blankets.

"We will have many supplies, some of which have been available at previous distribution events," Murray's statement said.
