Saving gas is a matter of conservation
I read with interest, and wholeheartedly agree with, the writers of "There is a way to save at the pump" [Opinion, April 19].
We certainly can sit idly by while we wait until the Obama administration requires the auto industry to cut emissions and increase mileage. Or, we can be proactive by making a few small changes: Turn off your engine when you go in to purchase your morning coffee, shut off your car when you arrive 15 minutes early to pick your child up from school, and insist that your vehicle be turned off at the carwash while you're waiting for your windows to be dried, mats to be cleaned and wheels to be shined.

Where are the politicians as our gas prices soar above $4 a gallon? Really, since 1977 we talked about reducing our dependency on foreign fuel and making use of alternative fuels.
Hybrid cars getting 42 miles to the gallon are nice, but not enough. I'm sure that was the allowable amount approved by the United States of Big Oil. These cars could be capable of doing a lot better.
Wait until the oil companies show record profits once again, like they did the last time this happened. No one in office has even remotely come close to challenging Big Oil.
I don't believe one thing the politicians say anymore. We need to all get out there and vote out every one who's in office now.
Maybe it is time for someone like Donald Trump.

Isn't it nice to hear that BP is back making millions of dollars again, while the poor fishermen who were affected by the oil spill have lost everything?
