THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $78,735,453 for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 1.8 percent over the current $77,346,545 budget. The local tax levy would rise from $47,863,612 to $50,689,726 - a 5.9 percent increase. The average house assessed at $40,000 would pay school taxes of $6,620 - an estimated increase of 5.9 percent over the current figure of $6,251.

The proposed budget includes a half-year salary freeze for teachers and administrators, followed by a 1.8 salary increase for teachers on Feb. 1. Staff cuts would include 13.4 full-time teaching positions, three other staff positions and 24 hours per week of teacher aide time.
