The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset this year marks a decade of providing scholarships to high school students who want to pursue music education.

The congregation’s Edward Miller Memorial Scholarship program has provided 13 high school students with scholarships since it was founded in 2004. It was named in memory of  Miller, the congregation's music director and a teacher for 25 years in East Rockaway. Miller died in 1997.

The scholarship is funded through money raised from the congregation’s annual “The Cabaret at Shelter Rock” event.

The congregation said it raised more than $1,700 last year for scholarship recipients.

Scholarship candidates must demonstrate financial need as well as musical talent, and must graduate from a high school in Nassau County. For more information on the scholarship, or to apply, visit the congregation’s website, at www.uucsr.org/worship/music/the-edward-miller-memorial-music-scholarship-fund/
