State aid to local school districts and the status of Superfund sites are among the topics to be discussed at Thursday’s meeting of the Hicksville Gardens Civic Association.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Kenneth Barnes Community Room at the Hicksville Public Library, 169 Jerusalem Ave.

Civic leaders are expected to address what they call an inequitable system of school aid, based on property values rather than district size and demographics. They will also discuss the idea of district consolidation, which they say is not always a cost-saving measure.

Regarding Superfund sites, Hicksville Water District representatives and other officials will provide updates about cleanup at the Hooker Chemical site and a federal proposal to consolidate several Superfund site regions.
